Lori Crow
Lifelong Evansville resident Lori Crow graduated from North High School and and attended the University of Southern Indiana before taking her first job as Gerling Law's receptionist in 1989. She proved to be a versatile team member and worked her way up to a paralegal role before moving on in 1996. Eleven years later, she rejoined the Gerling team, serving as an assistant to Gayle Gerling Pettinga and as the firm's marketing manager before taking her current position as administrator in 2014. In addition to her extensive legal knowledge, Lori has a knack for interior design, making her the firm's go-to person anytime someone needs advice about decorating. She's also known for having a big heart for those in need, so it comes as no surprise that she's an active participant in the firm's extensive community involvement. Lori and her husband began dating during her freshman year at North. The couple, who recently celebrated their silver anniversary, has two adult children, and one grandchild, and she's particularly proud that her kids share her commitment to serving others who are less fortunate.
Barbara Bolin
Barb has called the Evansville area home since she was just a year and a half old. Before taking over the financial end of Gerling Law, she spent many years providing friendly service for several local banks, including First Federal, Home Federal, Permanent Bank and Old National. She also ran the business side of her husband's plumbing business for a decade. Given that she's our controller, you probably won't be surprised that she has an eye for detail and for making sure that everything adds up — or that nobody can find more value for a dollar in any kind of store. But those who know Barb well will tell you that she has a much softer side, as in a soft spot for furry friends. Everyone in the office also appreciates the products of her garden, especially when she treats us to one of her favorite recipes!
Diane Shirley
Intake Coordinator
Nobody will ever suggest that Diane doesn't carry her weight around here. After all, our friendly intake coordinator is also the holder of a U.S. record in Powerlifting. Diane is a Henderson native who has lived in the area for most of her life, aside from several years in Lexington, where she earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Kentucky. She's currently studying for an MBA from Murray State, and says she enjoys the feeling when her efforts have helped one of our clients become whole after suffering a loss. Diane's career path has included providing customer service on every continent for a construction equipment company, and serving as Tribunal Secretary for the Evansville Diocese. At work, she's in constant motion, but that doesn't compare to her free time, when you'll find her racing around on motorcycles and dirt bikes, or enjoying the open road in her Dodge Stealth or '63 VW Beetle ragtop.
Jennifer Bland
Jennifer Bland's life took her to Glendale, Arizona, where she attended high school, and then brought her back to her hometown of Evansville. The law fascinated her, and after attending college for a while, she had an opportunity to take a legal secretary/paralegal role with a firm. She has been helping attorneys fight for their clients' rights ever since. Jennifer has been involved in both general and criminal law, with the rare experience of having worked on three death penalty cases, one of which was in federal court. She has also coordinated the extensive paperwork and research on a long list of appeals, with a fast, efficient approach that helps the attorneys she works with make the most effective use of their time. And while she gives her all at work, Jennifer knows how to relax. If she's not hanging out with her family (including her son and daughter) or her friends, you'll probably find her curled up with a good book or listening to music. She also enjoys a part-time position as a bartender at the local American Legion post, and confesses to a newfound fascination with body art.
April Vindhurst
Legal Assistant
April grew up in Henderson, Kentucky, and still calls it home, although she did cross the Ohio to earn a Bachelor's degree in Communications from the University of Southern Indiana. While a student at USI, April worked for another law firm before joining the Gerling Law team 19 years ago. She enjoys the challenge of gathering everything our legal team needs to pursue justice for our clients, and takes particular pleasure when she's able to help a case reach its resolution more quickly. When she's away from the office, April enjoys hanging out with her husband and 4 kids attending one of their many activities that they are involved in, or catching a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game.
Abby Ferguson
Born and raised in Evansville, Abby graduated from Harrison High School and went on to study criminal justice at Ivy Tech. Before joining the Gerling Law team, she spent nine years handling information requests for the medical records department at Deaconess Hospital. Helping our clients as a paralegal has taken her career in a new direction, but then Abby has always enjoyed tackling new challenges. Her long-term plans include furthering her education. When she isn't working with our clients, she's enthusiastically cheering in the stands as her son competes on baseball diamonds and basketball courts. The family also enjoys traveling around the country to see the Pittsburgh Pirates in action. In quieter moments, you'll find Abby sprucing up her yard, or playing with Kooper, the family's Shepherd/hound mix.
Carrie Goldsberry
A native of Henderson, Kentucky, Carrie took a detour to Clearwater, Florida for several years before coming back to the Tri-State and taking a position as a paralegal with the Gerling team. She earned an Associate Degree (Magna Cum Laude) in Paralegal Studies from Owensboro’s Daymar College in 2012. Carrie developed extensive experience as a paralegal for other law firms helping individuals through home insurance cases, foreclosures, and fraud related to investments and securities. She enjoys guiding people through difficult legal issues and celebrating victories with them. The mother of a young daughter, Carrie doesn’t just help people through crises. When she isn’t rooting for Kentucky Wildcats basketball, you’ll find her and her daughter enjoying time with family and friends, as well as exploring the area’s many parks and walking trails during warmer weather.
Danielle Meece
Marketing Assistant
Although our Marketing Assistant was born on the Indiana side of the river, Danielle now calls Henderson, Kentucky home. She spent her formative years in Newburgh before moving to Bowling Green in 2009 to study at Western Kentucky University and work as a full-time nanny. After an eye-opening summer performing missionary service with orphans in Uganda, Danielle returned to school. She soon followed her high school sweetheart (an active duty soldier) across the Tennessee line to Clarksville and continued to commute to WKU. When his service ended, the couple decided to establish their family in Henderson, and welcomed a daughter in June 2018. She has continued her education through Grand Canyon University and expects to graduate in the coming months. Danielle has also worked in hospitality and as a scheduler for a large orthopedic surgery practice before taking a break to raise her daughter (and look after the couple’s trio of dogs, including a three-legged black lab). She’s been a great addition to the Gerling team and enjoys helping grow the firm in a variety of marketing channels.
Teri Freels
Calling or visiting an attorney’s office for the first time can be intimidating, but as soon as clients hear Teri’s warm voice or see her friendly smile, they know they’re going to be treated well. As Gerling Law’s receptionist, Teri builds everyone’s comfort and confidence that their needs will be taken seriously. The Evansville native spent just over a decade in Indianapolis before returning here to stay. Her career began in the travel industry, including time with Northwest Airlink in Evansville and with three travel agencies. Teri also spent several years in the world of motorsports, which involved handling all the travel arrangements for PKV Racing, Cheever Racing and Vision Racing. Along her journey, she also gained experience in retail settings. Teri has twin daughters who are at that age where activities seem to consume every waking moment. When she isn’t balancing their travel soccer and competitive cheer schedules, Teri is an proud supporter of CASA and the McCutchanville PTA. Yoga in the moments in between helps her stay cool and calm while managing that packed calendar. She and the girls love Fenway, their dachshund, and also tend to two fish, a hamster, and a gerbil.
